How Etsy fees actually work (US sellers)

FAQ

How much does Etsy take per sale?

Etsy charges three main fees on every US sale: a $0.20 listing fee (per listing, every 4 months), a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including shipping, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per transaction. Combined, that's typically 11-13% of the order plus the $0.45 in flat fees.

Are Etsy fees calculated on shipping too?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee both apply to the full order total — item price plus shipping plus any gift wrap. This is why charging high shipping doesn't help avoid fees.

What's the Offsite Ads fee?

Etsy may charge an additional 12% Offsite Ads fee on sales that come from external ads Etsy ran (Google, Facebook, etc.). This rate drops to 15% for shops over $10K in trailing 365-day revenue. You can opt out only if your shop is under that $10K threshold.

How much should I price my Etsy items?

A common rule for handmade: (cost of materials + your hourly rate × time) × 2 = wholesale, × 4 = retail. Then add roughly 15% on top to absorb Etsy fees and still hit your margin. Use this calculator to plug in different prices and see your real take-home before committing.

Does this calculator include international fees?

This calculator uses US-based fee rates. International sellers face slightly different processing fees and currency conversion costs. The 6.5% transaction fee and $0.20 listing fee are the same globally, but processing can range from ~3-4% + a flat fee depending on your country.

What is an Etsy fee calculator?

An Etsy fee calculator shows your real take-home after Etsy deducts its three main fees: a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a payment processing fee that varies by country (about 3% + $0.25 in the US). Many sellers underprice because they only subtract the 6.5% transaction fee and forget the others — the combined effective rate on a typical $25 US listing is closer to 11–12%. Artlister's free Etsy fee calculator updates as you type, so you can test pricing before you list.
